I had the pleasure last Christmas to visit this wonderful place called “The Poet’s Passage” at Old San Juan. This venue combines a cafe with a gift shop and it is a hub of cultural activity. Every Tuesday night they carry an open mic night for poetry reading, music and dance interpretations from the amateur public.
From floor to ceiling there are beautiful poems by locally famous poet Lady Lee Andrews, who is also the owner, on canvas, tiles, posters, board print, etc. The shop itself is a beautiful space including artwork by other lo al artists from pottery to giclee prints by Nico Thomassin; there is also a wonderful creative space for tapping into your artsy genius.
I had the pleasure of assisting a Poet’s Night recently and I was simply mesmerized: people from all parts of the country and the mainland, with different life experiences converged that night to express themselves. I was even inspired to read some poetry of my own! If you want a different experience and to embrace other cultures, you should definitely come to the Poet’s Passage at Old San Juan!
They are open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m and on Tuesdays, they open until 10:00 p.m for their weekly “Poesía en vivo” night. You can find them at 203 Calle Cruz in San Juan.
